Everyone loves a success story. The story of AMBICO LIMITED
is a great one: two brothers-in-law founded AMBICO in 1955, distributing construction products in Eastern Ontario . The Company has evolved to a specialized door manufacturing company, now guided by two friends who have known each other for over 30 years: Jack Shinder , President and Judah Silverman, Vice-President.

Celebrations were planned around Sales Meetings planned for mid-October, with Sales Representatives and their families traveling from across North America and as far away as Great Britain . Accommodated at the world class Fairmont Chateau Laurier, located in the heart of Ottawa , Canada ’s capital city, guests were surrounded by historic sites, the beautiful Houses of Parliament, the Rideau Canal , and the convergence of the Ottawa , Gatineau and Rideau Rivers .

A 50 th Anniversary Gala Celebration was held on Saturday, October 15 th, when President Jack Shinder and Vice-President Judah Silverman played host to family members, employees and their families, former employees, visiting Sales Representatives and their families, as well as suppliers and long-time supporters. The guest-of-honor was co-founder, Israel Shinder, who enjoyed being surrounded by many poignant memories and people who have been a large part of his life for so many years.

The evening was planned to be a combination of remembering, enjoying and looking toward an exciting future. To this end, a video presentation captured the evolving of AMBICO from its beginnings in 1955 to its current reputation as a renowned manufacturer of specialized door, door frame and window products. THE LATEST INDUSTRY INNOVATION: “MARINE DOOR”
MEETING A-60 (IMO) PERFORMANCE STANDARD

In November, 2005, AMBICO announced the successful fire testing of an A-60 Marine Door under the U.S. Coast Guard approval category 164.136. The door is a swinging door, constructed of stainless steel with a 127 x 286 mm window.

The tests were conducted on June 30, 2005 at Southwest Research Institute in accordance with IMO Resolution
A.754(18), Recommendation on Fire Resistance Tests for ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and ‘F’ Class Division, November 4, 1993 Edition, for a duration of one hour.

Marine doors must meet a number of criteria in conformance with International Marine Organization (IMO) standards:

  • an A-60 fire rating
  • severe temperature rise requirements
  • positive pressure standards
  • stringent smoke resistance requirements

AMBICO Marine Doors are available in a range of materials such as #304 and #316 stainless steel or galvanneal steel.

Applications include:

  • Ships and other lake/sea/ocean carriers
  • Off-shore drilling rigs
  • Fire boats

Once again, with the successful rating of their Marine A60 steel door, AMBICO has proven to be an industry leader in the development of highly specialized door and door frame products.
