AMBICO TORNADO DOORS PASS RIGOROUS TORNADO TESTING AT TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY

November 21, 2003: AMBICO Limited continues to position itself as a world leader in the manufacture of specialized door and frame products after newly developed tornado doors successfully withstood rigorous testing last week at a leading American test site.

At the Wind Engineering Laboratory of Texas Tech University, located at Lubbock, Texas, AMBICO tornado doors were subjected to air pressures in excess of 1.75 psi, as well as bombardment by wood beams shot from a cannon at a rate of 100 mph. These conditions simulated the effects of an F5 tornado. The doors and door frame units were unscathed by the "virtual" tornado.

AMBICO is the only firm in North America certified to manufacture doors as large as 4'0" x 8'0" in single leaf or paired openings, that meet the national FEMA #361 standard "Design and Construction Guidance for Community Shelters". AMBICO tornado doors have demonstrated their suitability for public buildings that comply with this standard including schools and community centers, where shelter will be sought during tornadoes and other extreme weather events.
