General Description:
AMBICO Acoustic Wood Doors and Steel Frames set the global standard for sound transmission loss. They offer an outstanding solution for reducing sound transmission in environments where precise sound control is needed. Today, sound control applications are becoming increasingly popular in the entertainment, healthcare, manufacturing, government, military, and education industries. AMBICO’s acoustic wood assemblies can provide the advantages of noise reduction while maintaining the appearance of standard hollow wood products.
Product Details:
Key Features of AMBICO Acoustic Wood Door & Frame Assemblies:
- Acoustic Performance: The performance of an acoustic product is measured based on Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating. A higher STC rating indicates a greater reduction in noise transmission.
- Our Acoustic Wood Doors and Steel Frames are available in a wide range of STC ratings, with STC 33 to 50 options at a thickness of 1¾ʺ, and custom-engineered solutions are also available for higher ratings from STC 51 to STC 56 at greater thickness.
- Custom Finishes: Face veneers are available in a variety of paint-grade or stain-grade options including birch, oak, walnut, maple, and cherry. Door edges are designed to match the veneer of the door face.
- Lab-tested: Our Acoustic Wood Doors and Steel Frames have been tested as an assembly and come supplied with acoustic perimeter and bottom seals.
- Compliance and Certification: All AMBICO Acoustic product assemblies comply with the latest ASTM-90 and E-413 standards.
- ASTM-90 is the standard test method for laboratory measurement of airborne sound transmission loss in building partitions, including doors, windows, walls, and other elements used to divide spaces.
- E-413 is a standard classification method used to calculate single-number acoustical ratings for laboratory and field measurements of sound attenuation obtained in one-third octave bands.
- Fire-labeled: All fire-labeled products are tested in accordance with NFPA-80 and UL-10C and certified by Underwriters Laboratories and Warnock Hersey International. Fire-labeled acoustic wood products can be supplied as singles or pairs.
- Enhanced Security Options: For specified security-related applications, we also offer SCIF and DCID 6/9 compliant Acoustic Wood Doors and Steel Frames.
Choose AMBICO Acoustic Wood Doors and Frames for enhanced speech privacy and sound reduction, suitable for all industry needs. Our products are backed by rigorous testing and compliance with up-to-date standards. Contact us today for more information.

- Music and Entertainment Applications: Environments focused on music or audio experiences, including recording studios, concert venues, theaters, and broadcasting studios, demand exceptional sound attenuation to preserve sound quality and minimize sound transmission from adjacent rooms and corridors. Our Acoustic Wood Doors and Steel Frames are designed to assist in achieving the desired sound quality while effectively preventing unwanted external noise disruptions.
- Academic Setting: Classrooms, libraries, music rooms, and gymnasiums in schools, universities, and colleges all require effective noise control measures to prevent sound disruptions that can impact student stress levels, knowledge absorption, and physical well-being. Acoustic Wood Doors and Steel Frames are specifically designed to mitigate these negative effects by isolating classrooms and creating a conducive learning environment for students and academic staff.
- Healthcare Facilities: Hospitals, clinics, and rehabilitation centers highly prioritize privacy and confidentiality. Our Acoustic Wood Doors and Frames provide an optimal solution for enhanced privacy. They enable secure and confidential conversations between patients and healthcare providers, as well as facilitate a secure environment for critical healthcare training.

STC stands for “sound transmission class”. It represents a method of measuring sound transmission loss through a barrier ie. a door or a wall. The higher the STC rating the better the sound deadening property of the door. AMBICO provides 1 3/4″ thick doors from STC 33 to STC 53. Doors up to 3 3/8″ in overall thickness provide a rating of STC 54. Let us help you select an acoustic product that will meet your project requirements.
Perimeter seals, bottom seals and thresholds are always supplied, as they are integral to the sound deadening properties of the door/frame assembly Heavy weight butt hinges and latching devices are readily available from local hardware distributors as well as from AMBICO.
AMBICO has tested glazed acoustic doors that have achieved STC 52. Glazing material must be factory pre-installed.
The entire range of wood veneers are available. Doors are supplied with matching edges. As well, doors can be provided with a pre-finished stain or clear coat per project specifications.
